How often should you service your reel?
Reels should be serviced once every twelve months or so depending on use. It is possible to service reels yourself however if you are not confident in doing so, it’s best to take them to a professional to do the job.
How do you clean a Shimano Calcutta reel?
Access the spool assembly on Shi- mano® Calcutta® and Calcutta B® via thumbscrews located on right side plate. Remove spool assembly Using cotton swabs and/or a toothbrush with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, clean the exterior of the reel. Clean levelwind system of dirt, debris and old grease.
How do you take care of a spinning reel?
Clean exterior of reel with cotton swabs and isopropyl rubbing alco- hol. Clean off excess oil, grease, salt deposits or debris. Keeping reels clean helps prevent costly Inspect and clean line roller assem- bly. Use a cotton swab to “feel” if the line roller bearing or bushing needs to be replaced.
How is a saltwater trolling rod and reel used?
A saltwater trolling rod is a beefed-up version of its baitcasting cousin with a revolving spool reel that sits on top of the rod. Saltwater trolling rods used for stand-up fishing will usually be shorter with a longer butt, while rods made to be used in a fighting chair will be longer with a shorter butt.
Do you grease Carbontex drag washers?
Carbontex can be installed dry OR with a LIGHT coating of Cal’s Universal Reel and Drag grease. This is the only grease we recommend. It can be used on the drags and everywhere else in the reel grease is desired.
Can you use reel grease on drag washers?
Any thin viscosity reel lube will work but my favorite light oil is Hot Sauce by Quantum. I use drag grease on drag washers and reel grease on gears.
