How thick are drag washers?
Tough, inexpensive, easy to cut and fit, almost impervious to heat, it’s a quantum leap over the fibre washers fitted to so many factory fishing reels. To get the right size washer for the drags in your reel, firstly remove the washers from your reel. We supply carbontex in both 1mm and 0.5mm thickness.
What is Carbontex drag washers?
Smoooooth Drag Carbontex drag washers are made of carbon material, offering the ultimate smooth drag performance, and strong drag capacity. You may upgrade drag capacity by up to twice with Carbontex. It start to slip very smooth, offering even pressure to lines. It never melt by heat.
How do you cut a Carbontex drag washer?
Just clip the washer to the Carbontex sheet and cut them out with a sharp pair of scissors, clean up the edges with sand paper or sanding bit. Drill bits and cone shaped grinding bits for inside diameters. Dont breathe the carbon dust however, not good for you.
Can you use reel grease on drag washers?
Any thin viscosity reel lube will work but my favorite light oil is Hot Sauce by Quantum. I use drag grease on drag washers and reel grease on gears.
Do you grease Carbontex drag washers?
Carbontex can be installed dry OR with a LIGHT coating of Cal’s Universal Reel and Drag grease. This is the only grease we recommend. It can be used on the drags and everywhere else in the reel grease is desired.

Grease it and the max drag gets better. Go figure. In a saltwater setup, I wouldn’t even hesitate to grease the carbon washers. This extra grease will aid in fighting off the ever corrosive saltwater and keep the washers from drying out and collecting salt air moisture in them, causing the drag to become jerky.
Do you OIL felt drag washers?
Once the felt is dry, work a few drops of reel oil into each. Be careful not to apply too much and never apply grease! Felt is only lubricated with oil.
